Albuquerque| A New Mexico woman was finally arrested this morning by officers of the Albuquerque Police Department in what could be the most extreme case of stalking ever recorded in the history of the country. The 28-year old woman allegedly not only called her ex-lover a formidable 77 639 times in a week, but also sent him 1937 emails, 41 229 text messages, 217 sung messages and 647 letters in the same period.

Linda Murphy, who has an history of obsessive compulsive behavior, would have badly taken her breakup with William Ryans, with whom she had had a relationship for three weeks. She is accused of using up to three phones at once to call him, 24 hours a day,  on his cell phone, home number and at work. The woman would have ingested large quantities of energy drinks and amphetamines to remain awake and would have gone sleepless for a week, calling her ex nonstop.

“My client is profoundly relieved that Ms. Murphy is finally behind bars” stated the plaintiff’s lawyer, J.D. James Kilroy. “He hasn’t been able to sleep, work or enjoy life in any way, for more than a week. He was having a hard time thinking clearly and was nearing depression, it was about time the harassment ceased. Now all we want is for Ms. Murphy to get the medical help she needs, and for the law to keep her away from my client.”

The accused is expected to appear in the state court tomorrow in Albuquerque, and most experts presume that the judge will order a psychological evaluation of the woman to determine if she is capable of standing trial.

And why did he not change his phone number and make it private! Both people are loony.

She called his work and emailed. No one should be expected to just change their lives for someone. If he changed his number he would have to inform all his contacts, his work. Plus this happened in a week.

@Grace – Because she is crazy, he most change the phone number?

    • When I was being stalked and my harasser called me, even though I had threats of physical violence, it took 4 days for the phone company to change my number.

Right because he can’t block her numbers or anything and block her email address. There’s easier solutions. I myself would have blocked her on my cell, left a VM saying to call my cell on my house phone and unplugged it then blocked her emails and gone to sleep. If she had come to the house, call 911 and watch her get dragged away.

I did the math. This story is physically impossible!

    • I don’t get it… Today getting rid of this kind of stalking is easy… Cellphones can block unwanted text/calls, Caller ID and modern house phones can make it easy to block calls, emails can be filtered and sent to spam.. It’s not like she showed up in person. This guy is just a big baby..

This is so demonstrably not “what could be the most extreme case of stalking ever recorded in the history of the country.”
Dude is badly harassed and rightly shook-up, frightened and lacking in sleep, and clearly needed her to be forcibly prevented from doing the things she was doing, which were: “not only called her ex-lover a formidable 77 639 times in a week, but also sent him 1937 emails, 41 229 text messages, 217 sung messages and 647 letters in the same period.”
Nowhere in the article) is she claimed to have approached him or his family or his friends. She wasn’t seen by these people, didn’t physically harm anyone. This is not the most extreme case of stalking in the history of the USA or any other country. Crazy lady needs intervention.
Lots and lots and lots of women who are stalked by their exes end up dead. THAT is extreme stalking.

    • iruka on June 30, 2014 at 7:39 am said:

Kristen, that’s not extreme stalking, that’s murder. Which is sometimes the end result of stalking. This, is extreme stalking.

kristen, that’s the dumbest thing i’ve read all week. this is not a gender issue, and you sound like an idiot for defending this crazy bitch’s actions. “Lots and lots” of men who are stalked by their exes also end up dead.

      that is murder, not stalking.

    • LaRonda on July 4, 2014 at 1:14 am said:

I agree with you Kristen the MOST extreme cases are the ones that end in cold blood, rape, or even assaulted but this was pure madness. She has a problem with O.C.D o.k. so making her look like she is the bad person isn’t right. She my also have an self-esteem issue too. He should have called the police after the first day not a week later. SMH he is an idiot.

    • casey on July 1, 2014 at 1:47 pm said:

Do not underestimate the strength of a woman.

    • when U do the math, she would have to have called 462 times per hour, which is less than 8 times per minute! An average phone call before connecting to voice mail is about 30 seconds, provided the phone is on; it’s mathematically and virtually impossible!

    • Jeremy on July 2, 2014 at 10:54 pm said:

She was using 4 phones apparently.

    • Nanny on July 5, 2014 at 7:38 pm said:

Article stated that she used multiple phones simultaneously. If true, she was capable of making many more than she did!

The guy’s case would’ve been simple as to block her number, change his email and have all calls from work go directly to the boss because I’m sure he’s not aloud to take personal calls. The mailing address though is probably where he was stuck. Thank god this woman is behind bars, if only my exes were to join her because they’re all the same way except not as crazy.

There is no way in hell she could have accomplished all that in one week. There are only 10,080 minutes in 7 days. Even if she tried, that would mean she did not EVER stop to eat, sleep, shower, poop, go to work, leave the house… NOTHING.

It’s obvious some people can’t do math. There is no way this story is real. Over the period of time suggested in the story, she would have to be communicating with him 24/7 and each communication done in approximately 4.2 seconds.

      Don’t think so!

Assuming it took 5 minutes? I’m sure by letters they mean brief scribblings. I’m sure it was a rushed, sloppy “Baby I miss you, we can fix it.” Next one. “You know this isn’t right.” Next. Not literally, but along those lines. Same with the emails. I doubt everything was articulately written out in long, throughout paragraphs.
