The UFC is about to launch the new Super Heavyweight class for competitors weighing above 265 lb (120 kg), according to UFC president Dana White.

White said on FOXSports.com’s “The Fighter & The Kid” podcast that the UFC has begun “working on” debuting a 300-pound men division. White has previously spoken about bringing in 300-pound men, but has been non-committal yet about a same weight division for the ladies.

As White has said many times, as the UFC continues its global expansion, starting bigger and bigger weight classes is crucial.

“We’re actually working on bringing in members of the American Sumo Wrestling Federation, which I said would never happen for a long time,” White told hosts Brendan Schaub and Bryan Callen.

“We are also thinking of special events where all weight classes could fight against each other, so a 125 pound guy could be fighting a 325 pound monster, that would be epic,” White replied.

The new Super Heavyweight Class is scheduled to be inaugurated this fall.

I’m excited for a number of reasons. One important one is as follows. With this weight class in mix, there may more opportunity for fighters across the weight classes to fight at their natural weight, instead of cutting. Once all the giants leave the current heavy weight division, then the leaves open slots for giants in the classes to move up, but not be overwhelmed. I remember seeing a bout where one opponent met the weight for heavy weight, but his opponent was twice his height and size, great athlete, but forced to look at cutting weight fight in a lower weight class. Imagine the outcome of some of the greatest fights and or knockouts in UFC both fighters had been fresh and not tired from cutting. This is just my view point; there may be many who disagree, but sincerely hope that will be the outcome of this new division. Imagine “the spider” fighting at light heavy weight, or Big Alistair, not having to cut any weight, just stepping into the ring and bringing the pain. Just a thought. Thanks for letting me rant a little.

I don’t know how I feel about the “special events” Dana mentions at the end. A guy at 150 fighting a guy at 300 has strong man contest at the county fair written all over it. And it’s a lose-lose for the bigger guy every time. If he wins it will only be because “he’s bigger.” If he loses, he loses to a smaller guy and looks like a total puss. Anyway… these are the words of the lord. Go in peace, stay with men your own weight, and don’t eat corn-dogs.

I think all the weight cutting is very unhealthy and dangerous. Weigh in three hours before the card and everyone is healthier and the weight classes are realistic.

When I asked him this question at the expo, he said there isn’t enough talent in heavy weight, let alone find a 300lb plus skilled fighters

this would be stupid as fuck and would lower the ufcs prestige
