Kentucky teacher fired for using the word “evolution” in biology class

Bowling Green, KY | A substitute biology teacher at Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bowling Green, Kentucky, was recently fired after she allegedly taught her students about the theory of evolution.

Alice Kerwin, 26, claims she was fired from the position she’d occupied for the past week because she used the word “evolution” in the context of a biology class.

Holy Trinity Catholic Community School has a policy that requires previous approval be granted if a teacher wants to discuss “any theory that denies the story of the Divine Creation of man as taught in the Bible, and to teach instead that man has descended from a lower order of animals.”

“I was shocked when I learned that most of my students had never heard of the word evolution,” she told reporters.

“I just explained to them that, according to Darwin’s theory, our human ancestors evolved from monkeys and that humanity didn’t live at the same time as the dinosaurs.”

“Many of my students started to cry and one even through his Bible at me, saying I was a liar and that I was going to burn in Hell for eternity,” she added, visibly traumatized.

Holy Trinity Catholic High School principal, Adam Irving, says he received hundreds of complaints from parents of children at the high school after the controversial class.

Hundreds of complaints

Principal Irving claims he received hundreds of complaints from parents in the days following the class and that since Miss Kerwin did not have permission to teach evolution, he was obliged to terminate her employment.

“It may make sense to other schools to teach that man and monkeys intermingled but that is definitely not the kind of teachings we adhere to at Holy Trinity Catholic High School,” principal Irving told reporters.

“Saying someone is descended from monkeys is about the worst thing you can say about that person. It’s as bad as saying that someone’s mother is a prostitute, or telling someone they’re dying of AIDS when they’re not.”

“Teaching children that human kind is a byproduct of sex between man and monkeys does clearly not fulfill the curriculum of our school’s higher moral standards,” he added.

Since she was fired this week, Professor Alicia Kerwin also claims to have received dozens of death threats in the middle of the night, as well as her car being spray painted in red with the letters S-A-T-A-N and even being insulted and spit at numerous times at the grocery store by a small crowd of people.
